Who likes Anniversaries?

Not Taede! Last night we tried to have a dinner by ourselves so that we could sort of celebrate. Spencer has to get up at the crack of dawn every morning (5:30a.m.) and I have to eat dinner by at least 7:00 or so (pregnancy), we usually eat at 5:00 and everyone knows how long the kids' bedtime routine takes, so eating dinner after the kids were in bed was not happening. The plan: Get the kids fed first while our food was cooking, then send them up to their rooms (with a treat) to play while we enjoyed a meal alone for a few minutes. Yea right. Who were we kidding. Good plan for us, bad plan for a 5, 3, & 1 1/2 year old. Every 2 minutes one of them would run down the stairs with a "problem" or scream and run back upstairs just for the thrill of it. The highlight of the less than romantic dinner was this little illustration from Taede:

He is seriously such a sweet kid most of the time so when he gave it to Spencer I said "Is that for our anniversary?" He responded by saying "This is for NOT anniversaries!". Thus the two people sitting at the table are Spencer and I and the X through the table and the rather large X that takes up most of the page depicts his frustration with us wanting to have a meal without the boys. So, that was really a great summation of our 6 years of marriage. Not because we could have been angry with the boys for not leaving us alone for 15 minutes (I have to admit I was pretty annoyed) or that we think our whole marriage has been burden with children, but because this was what life and marriage is really all about. Our little family and the love that brought it about. We both just laughed and Spencer said "What would life be like without kids?". We both agreed that it would be pretty boring. What a beautiful life.
