Monday @ Minuteman

On Monday we decided to make FHE into a day activity. Spencer finished his day of studying around 1:00 in the afternoon, so after a little lunch we went to Minuteman National Park in Concord. We had to convince the boys that it was a much better idea than going to the Children's Museum, which we had originally planned. The weather was just so perfect that we wanted to do something outside. Well it turns out that the boys thought the Park was awesome. Why you may ask? Well what boy doesn't love fighting, guns, & the outdoors?!? Much to a mothers dismay:). We watched a movie about the Battle of Lexington and Concord

(it was a great little movie theater with some neat special effects). Then we got to see one of the militia men, as they were referred to at the time, fire a gun. (Really it was a national park employee and there wasn't a musket ball in the gun, none the less it was very interesting especially to the boys). The North Bridge was beautiful and there were some great climbing trees that we just had to explore. The night was topped off by singing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Called to Serve" (not really a battle song...just the boys' favorite) and marching around the house with muskets (aka miscellaneous vacuum parts). It was a fun family day!
